In­tern­ship dead­line is Nov. 17

AN­NAPO­LIS — Col­lege stu­dents in­ter­ested in pur­su­ing jour­nal­ism have un­til Fri­day, Nov. 17 to sub­mit an ap­pli­ca­tion for an an­nual in­tern­ship pro­gram of­fered by the Mary­land- Delaware- D. C. Press As­so­ci­a­tion.

“MDDC’s Reese Cleghorn In­tern­ship Pro­gram sup­ports lo­cal publi­ca­tions and de­vel­op­ing jour­nal­ists by pro­vid­ing col­lege stu­dents paid, in­ten­sive, real-world ex­pe­ri­ence in mem­ber publi­ca­tions’ news­rooms each sum­mer,” a news re­lease from the as­so­ci­a­tion states.

Through the Cleghorn In­tern­ship, stu­dents are trained in news re­port­ing, copy-edit­ing and pho­tog­ra­phy. It in­cludes an em­pha­sis on “in­no­va­tive and mul­ti­me­dia skills,” the re­lease states. Stu­dents re­ceive a weekly stipend of $300 dur­ing the du­ra­tion of the eightweek in­tern­ship.

The Cleghorn In­tern­ship is open to un­der­grad­u­ates at­tend­ing any four-year col­lege in Mary­land, Delaware or Wash­ing­ton, D.C. Can­di­dates should have a strong ca­reer in­ter­est in jour­nal­ism and have com­pleted course­work or have equiv­a­lent ex­pe­ri­ence in the field.

“Over the past 15 years, 112 MDDC in­terns from 33 schools have served 34 mem­ber publi­ca­tions in 22 towns through­out the re­gion,” the re­lease states.
