Holiday in the hospital
Hospital rooms can be cold, drab and lonely. It is hard to imagine spending Christmas in one, but that is what 8-year-old Sammy is up against this year.
Sammy was riding in the backseat of his parents’ car when they were struck at a high speed by a driver who had run a red light. His parents, Dominic and Brenda never imagined they would get into an accident or that their little boy would be severely injured and forced to spend Christmas in the hospital.
They are so grateful they all survived the crash, and for the care that Sammy has received. But with the holidays quickly approaching the family is becoming depressed.
Day after day Sammy lies in his hospital bed reading books with his parents by his side, and while he is getting better, the duration of his stay is becoming harder and harder to maintain.
The car was Dominic and Brenda’s only vehicle, and now they are faced with hitching rides to work and the hospital and saving money to replace the family car.
The family is doing their best to stay positive but with the holiday approaching it is just reminder of their current struggles and that they always can’t be together.
Nothing would make their family happier than decorating their hospital room for Christmas. Being able to
be together around a glowing tree would keep them in high spirits while Sammy recovers. Your donation to The Star
