Haz­ardous waste dropoff day set

CEN­TRE­VILLE — Mary­land En­vi­ron­men­tal Ser­vice is host­ing a free house­hold haz­ardous waste drop-off event Satur­day at the Queen Anne’s County Pub­lic Works fa­cil­ity at 312 Safety Drive, Cen­tre­ville. The event is open to res­i­dents — not busi­nesses — of Caro­line, Kent, Queen Anne’s and Tal­bot coun­ties. It will run rain or shine from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Call MES at 443-685-4073 for ad­di­tional in­for­ma­tion. Ac­cept­able house­hold haz­ardous waste items in­clude: fu­els; empty propane cylin­ders; acids and sol­vents; chem­i­cals; pes­ti­cides; oil­based paint and stains; up to 15 flu­o­res­cent tubes and lamps; and mer­cury ther­mome­ters. Ac­cept­able elec­tron­ics in­clude: com­put­ers and pe­riph­er­als and TVs, along with re­motes, VCRs and CD and DVD play­ers. Us­able la­tex paint will be ac­cepted for re­cy­cling. Do not bring un­us­able la­tex paint. In­stead, so­lid­ify the paint with an ab­sorbent such as kitty lit­ter, dirt or mulch and dis­pose of the paint in reg­u­lar trash. Items that will not be ac­cepted at this event in­clude: house­hold trash; ex­plo­sives and am­mu­ni­tion; med­i­cal and ra­dioac­tive wastes; other com­pressed gas cylin­ders; as­bestos; busi­ness, in­dus­trial and com­mer­cial farm wastes; ap­pli­ances; power tools and bat­ter­ies; tires; and flares.,
