League announces candidate forums
CHESTERTOWN — The League of Women Voters will host forums for candidates running in local elections, in the Maryland Legislative District 36 and U.S. House of Representatives Maryland District 1.
A forum for candidates in the race for District 36 will be held Wednesday, Oct. 3 at Chesapeake College in the Cadby Theatre. The forum for candidates for delegate to the House of Delegates will begin at 7 p.m. The forum for candidates for Maryland State Senate will begin at 8 p.m.
Then, at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15, the league will host a forum for candidates for Kent County State’s Attorney, at the Kent County Public Library, 408 High St., Chestertown.
Candidates for Kent County Commissioner will participate in a forum beginning at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18 at the Chestertown Volunteer Fire Company, 211 Maple Ave., Chestertown.
It will be followed by a “Meet and Greet,” for candidates for clerk of the circuit court, register of wills and sheriff, all unopposed, and candidates for judge of orphans’ court.
At 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, the league will host a forum for candidates for U.S. House of Representatives, Maryland District 1, at the Talbot County Free Library, 100 W. Dover St., Easton
Finally, at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct 22, the league will host a forum for candidates for the Kent County Board of Education, at the Kent County Public Library, 408 High St. in Chestertown.
The League of Women Voters is a non-partisan organization, dedicated to promoting informed and active participation in government. The league does not support or oppose any candidate.
League of Women Voters rules, in compliance with its nonprofit status and campaign finance law, do not allow a forum for only one candidate. If only one candidate for an office appears at the league forum for that office, the forum will be cancelled.
No demonstrations are allowed in the event venue. No clothing or signs indicating support for or against a candidate will be permitted. Forums may not be recorded or filmed, unless with written agreement from the league.
