Augustine Lester Graves Sr.
CENTREVILLE — Augustine Lester Graves Sr., died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2018 at Compass Regional Hospice in Centreville. He was 83.
Mr. Graves was born March 3, 1935 in Chestertown, the son of the late George Graves and Alice “Lindsay” Graves. He was a 1954 graduate of Henry Highland Garnett High School. He married Jean Jeffers and the two began their family. Augustine worked as a truck driver, then he worked for Campbell Soup and most recently for Getty Oil Company where he retired in 1998. Mr. Graves was a member of the Thomas H. Kiah #101 Masonic Lodge, the Local 199 and 846 Labor Unions and John Wesley United Methodist Church. He enjoyed dancing, music, bowling, lifting weights, watching sports on tv, and fishing. He also enjoyed going to Dover with his sister and brother in law, going to the barber shop with Terry Bratcher, spending time at the adult daycare and spending weekends with friends and family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Graves; three brothers: James Graves, Lewin Graves, William Warren; and a sister, Doris Bratcher.
He is survived by four
daughters: Linda Comegys (Leroy), of Sudlersville; Ernestine Graves (Carlos), of Millington; Karen Graves, of Millington; Kim Graves (Charles Harris Jr.), of Newport, Del.; one son, Augustine Graves Jr. and daughter in law, Anjanette, of Millington; three sisters: Gloria Brown, of Baltimore; Mary Catherine Patterson, of Baltimore; Alice Demby (Garnett), of Chestertown; six grandchildren: Damon, Shawn, Taiya, Chaniece, Teonya, Alaiyah; 12 great grandchildren; brothers and sisters in law, Grayson Jeffers Jr. (Alice), Charlotte Potts, Betty Henry, Iris Needam (Ernest), Mahlon Jeffers (Joyce); and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A visitation will be held Saturday, Oct. 6, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Fellows Family Funeral Home, 370 Cypress St., Millington, MD. Services will begin at noon. Interment will follow in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Pondtown.
