Au­gus­tine Lester Graves Sr.

CEN­TRE­VILLE — Au­gus­tine Lester Graves Sr., died Thurs­day, Sept. 27, 2018 at Com­pass Re­gional Hospice in Cen­tre­ville. He was 83.

Mr. Graves was born March 3, 1935 in Chestertown, the son of the late Ge­orge Graves and Alice “Lind­say” Graves. He was a 1954 grad­u­ate of Henry High­land Gar­nett High School. He mar­ried Jean Jef­fers and the two be­gan their fam­ily. Au­gus­tine worked as a truck driver, then he worked for Camp­bell Soup and most re­cently for Getty Oil Com­pany where he re­tired in 1998. Mr. Graves was a mem­ber of the Thomas H. Kiah #101 Ma­sonic Lodge, the Lo­cal 199 and 846 La­bor Unions and John Wes­ley United Methodist Church. He en­joyed danc­ing, mu­sic, bowl­ing, lift­ing weights, watch­ing sports on tv, and fish­ing. He also en­joyed go­ing to Dover with his sis­ter and brother in law, go­ing to the barber shop with Terry Bratcher, spend­ing time at the adult day­care and spend­ing week­ends with friends and fam­ily.

In ad­di­tion to his par­ents, he was pre­ceded in death by his wife, Jean Graves; three brothers: James Graves, Lewin Graves, Wil­liam War­ren; and a sis­ter, Doris Bratcher.

He is sur­vived by four

daugh­ters: Linda Comegys (Leroy), of Sudlersville; Ernes­tine Graves (Car­los), of Milling­ton; Karen Graves, of Milling­ton; Kim Graves (Charles Har­ris Jr.), of New­port, Del.; one son, Au­gus­tine Graves Jr. and daugh­ter in law, An­janette, of Milling­ton; three sis­ters: Glo­ria Brown, of Bal­ti­more; Mary Cather­ine Pat­ter­son, of Bal­ti­more; Alice Demby (Gar­nett), of Chestertown; six grand­chil­dren: Da­mon, Shawn, Taiya, Chaniece, Teonya, Alaiyah; 12 great grand­chil­dren; brothers and sis­ters in law, Grayson Jef­fers Jr. (Alice), Char­lotte Potts, Betty Henry, Iris Needam (Ernest), Mahlon Jef­fers (Joyce); and nu­mer­ous nieces, neph­ews and cousins.

A visi­ta­tion will be held Sat­ur­day, Oct. 6, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Fel­lows Fam­ily Fu­neral Home, 370 Cy­press St., Milling­ton, MD. Ser­vices will be­gin at noon. In­ter­ment will fol­low in Mt. Pleas­ant Ceme­tery in Pond­town.
