Mental Illness Awareness Week is Oct. 7 to 13
CHESTERTOWN — During, Mental Illness Awareness Week, Oct. 7 to 13, the National Alliance on Mental Illness Kent and Queen Anne’s seeks to raise public awareness of mental illness, and to spread the word about its programs for family support and education.
NAMI’s Family Support Group meets on the first and third Monday of each month. Early next year, the group will be starting a 12-session course for family members of individuals with severe mental illness.

According to a news release, each year, millions of Americans face the reality of living with a mental health condition. One in five adults experiences mental illness problems every year, and 50 percent of chronic mental illness begins by age 14.
