Harry Bur­ton

CH­ESTER­TOWN — Harry Melvin Bur­ton Jr. of Ch­ester­town passed away on Oct. 5, 2018 at MedS­tar Wash­ing­ton Hos­pi­tal Cen­ter in Wash­ing­ton, D.C. He was 82.

Born on Feb. 7, 1936 in Bal­ti­more, he was the son of the late Harry Melvin Bur­ton Sr. and Frances No­ble Har­ris. He grad­u­ated in 1954, from Prince­ton High School in Prince­ton, N.J. Mr. Bur­ton worked with Chevro­let Mo­tor Di­vi­sion as a ser­vice man­ager for 21 years. He owned and op­er­ated Bur­ton Chevro­let from 1977 to 1984 and Cory Mo­tors from 1986 to 2008.

In 1988, he mar­ried Mary Bai­ley. Mr. Bur­ton was a mem­ber of the Ch­ester River Yacht and Coun­try Club, where he served on the board of direc­tors and chair­man of golf. He was also a mem­ber of the MISGA, the Ch­ester­town Ro­tary Club and a mem­ber of the Kent County Cham­ber of Com­merce, where he served as pres­i­dent in 1982. Mr. Bur­ton en­joyed boat­ing, golf­ing and his fam­ily.

In ad­di­tion to his wife of 30 years, Mary Bur­ton, he is sur­vived by three sons: Robert Bur­ton of Hartly, Del.; Harry Bur­ton of Price; and Michael

Bur­ton, of

Lit­tle Egg Har­bor,

N.J.; three daugh­ters: Cheryl

Bur­ton of Abing­don;

Bon­nie Bur­ton of Ch­ester­town; and Deb­o­rah Palmer of Rockville; two sis­ters: Frances Hack­ett of South­field, MI; and Jac­que­lyn Forcier of Marl­ton, N.J.; 13 grand­chil­dren; and five great-grand­chil­dren.

A Cel­e­bra­tion of his Life will be held noon Oct. 13 at Ch­ester River Yacht and Coun­try Club.

In lieu of flow­ers, con­tri­bu­tions may be made to the Harry Bur­ton Golf Schol­ar­ship, for a child to par­tic­i­pate in the ju­nior golf pro­gram at Ch­ester River Yacht and Coun­try Club, c/o CRYCC, 7738 Quaker Neck Road, Ch­ester­town, MD 21620.
