James A. Col­lier

CH­ESTER­TOWN — James Al­lan Col­lier of Ch­ester­town died on Satur­day, Oct. 6, 2018 at Heron Point. He was 89.

Born on March 29, 1929 in Philadel­phia, Pa., he was the son of the late Clarence Wil­liam and Edna Parkin­son Col­lier. He grad­u­ated from Am­bler High School and served in the United States Navy. In 1950, he mar­ried Eve­lyn Jean Good. Mr. Col­lier grad­u­ated from Drexel Univer­sity in 1953 with a Bach­e­lor of Science in busi­ness ad­min­is­tra­tion.

Fol­low­ing grad­u­a­tion, he worked with DuPont for six years and later worked in the ac­count­ing field with sev­eral dif­fer­ent com­pa­nies as well as op­er­at­ing a small tax and book­keep­ing com­pany. At age 40, he earned a teach­ing de­gree from Vil­lanova and later a mas­ter’s de­gree in ed­u­ca­tion from

Cheyney Col­lege. He taught busi­ness classes at Penn Delco High School in As­ton, Pa. He re­tired in 1993 and moved to Heron Point in Ch­ester­town, where he lived for the past 17 years.

Mr. Col­lier was a mem­ber of the Con­cord Lodge #625 AF&AM for 68 years and a mem­ber of Trin­ity Lutheran Church. He en­joyed read­ing, camp­ing, trav­el­ing, gar­den­ing and qual­ity con­ver­sa­tions.

In ad­di­tion to his wife, he is sur­vived by a son, Wil­liam Col­lier and wife Mar­i­lyn of We­ston, Mo.; a daugh­ter, Jen­nifer Ritchie and hus­band Bob of Rock Hall; and two grand­chil­dren: Ryan and Me­gan.

A memo­rial ser­vice will be held 11 a.m. Satur­day, Oct. 20 at Wes­ley Hall, Heron Point, 501 E. Cam­pus Ave.
