James A. Collier
CHESTERTOWN — James Allan Collier of Chestertown died on Saturday, Oct. 6, 2018 at Heron Point. He was 89.
Born on March 29, 1929 in Philadelphia, Pa., he was the son of the late Clarence William and Edna Parkinson Collier. He graduated from Ambler High School and served in the United States Navy. In 1950, he married Evelyn Jean Good. Mr. Collier graduated from Drexel University in 1953 with a Bachelor of Science in business administration.
Following graduation, he worked with DuPont for six years and later worked in the accounting field with several different companies as well as operating a small tax and bookkeeping company. At age 40, he earned a teaching degree from Villanova and later a master’s degree in education from
Cheyney College. He taught business classes at Penn Delco High School in Aston, Pa. He retired in 1993 and moved to Heron Point in Chestertown, where he lived for the past 17 years.
Mr. Collier was a member of the Concord Lodge #625 AF&AM for 68 years and a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He enjoyed reading, camping, traveling, gardening and quality conversations.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, William Collier and wife Marilyn of Weston, Mo.; a daughter, Jennifer Ritchie and husband Bob of Rock Hall; and two grandchildren: Ryan and Megan.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20 at Wesley Hall, Heron Point, 501 E. Campus Ave.
