The creator of the SOCP line of daggers and rescue tools brings decades of martial arts training and coaching to the design table. In the 1990s, he was one of the first Americans training and teaching Gracie Jiu Jitsu, the art of the Brazilian family fighting dynasty. It was Royce Gracie, the man who brought the family art to world recognition in the Ultimate Fighting Championships, who granted Thompson the black belt. In addition to a strong foundation in the grappling art of Jiu Jitsu, Thompson trained extensively in the kickboxing art of Muay Thai, which combines devastating kicks, punches, knees and elbows to create an intense and exciting ring-sport. When designing the Special Operations Combatives Program, Thompson integrated the arts of Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai and various other martial arts and fighting styles to create a “realism-based, task-specific” system to suit the modern specialized combat warrior.
