William James “Bill” Moder, a 23-year resident of Henderson, passed away peacefully September 27, 2017, surrounded by family. Bill had been quietly entertained by his family members’ remembrances and memories and had a gentle smile on his face as he found eternal rest. Born November 2, 1941, in St. Louis, Missouri, Bill was a much-loved father and grandfather. Growing up in the St. Louis area, Bill was a standout baseball and football athlete at East St. Louis High School in East St. Louis, Illinois, class of 1961 and later a respected veteran of the Vietnam War. Bill was a favorite teacher and coach at Assumption High School and East St. Louis High School in East St. Louis, Illinois and at Cahokia Senior High School and Wirth Middle School in Cahokia, Illinois. He is survived by his wife, Deborah S. Moder (nee Horton); sister, Alexis Sweeney (Michael); son, Christian James Moder (Sarabeth, nee Enoch); daughter, Meredith Leigh Moder; his children’s mother, Carol Moder Brookshier; granddaughters, Ava Louise Moder and Noelle Leigh Moder; grandson, Liam James Moder; mother-in-law, Marcella G. Horton; and brothers-inlaw and sisters-in-law, Kenneth and Christine Horton, Patrick Horton, Stacie Horton and Kim Castro, Mary and Guy Santen and Kelly and David Stelmach; and numerous nieces, nephews, greatnieces and great-nephews. No services are scheduled. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the American Cancer Society. Please remember Bill fondly with love.
