Wil­liam James “Bill” Moder, a 23-year res­i­dent of Hen­der­son, passed away peace­fully Septem­ber 27, 2017, sur­rounded by fam­ily. Bill had been qui­etly en­ter­tained by his fam­ily mem­bers’ re­mem­brances and mem­o­ries and had a gen­tle smile on his face as he found eter­nal rest. Born Novem­ber 2, 1941, in St. Louis, Mis­souri, Bill was a much-loved father and grand­fa­ther. Grow­ing up in the St. Louis area, Bill was a stand­out base­ball and foot­ball ath­lete at East St. Louis High School in East St. Louis, Illi­nois, class of 1961 and later a re­spected vet­eran of the Viet­nam War. Bill was a fa­vorite teacher and coach at As­sump­tion High School and East St. Louis High School in East St. Louis, Illi­nois and at Ca­hokia Se­nior High School and Wirth Mid­dle School in Ca­hokia, Illi­nois. He is sur­vived by his wife, Deb­o­rah S. Moder (nee Hor­ton); sis­ter, Alexis Sweeney (Michael); son, Chris­tian James Moder (Sara­beth, nee Enoch); daugh­ter, Meredith Leigh Moder; his chil­dren’s mother, Carol Moder Brook­shier; grand­daugh­ters, Ava Louise Moder and Noelle Leigh Moder; grand­son, Liam James Moder; mother-in-law, Mar­cella G. Hor­ton; and brothers-in­law and sis­ters-in-law, Ken­neth and Chris­tine Hor­ton, Pa­trick Hor­ton, Sta­cie Hor­ton and Kim Cas­tro, Mary and Guy San­ten and Kelly and David Stel­mach; and nu­mer­ous nieces, neph­ews, great­nieces and great-neph­ews. No ser­vices are sched­uled. Memo­ri­als may be made to the Alzheimer’s As­so­ci­a­tion or the Amer­i­can Can­cer So­ci­ety. Please re­mem­ber Bill fondly with love.
