MAGDALIN "MAGGIE" EKANGER

Magdallin R. “Maggie” Ekanger passed away February 28, 2018, at the age of 90, following a stroke. She was born July 11, 1927, to William Heubner and Esther Heubner (Nelson), in Minneapoli­s, Minnesota. She graduated from Moorhead High School June 1945. Maggie met her childhood sweetheart and future husband, Wally Ekanger on an ice rink his dad maintained in the winter time at a local school. She fell in love with Wally as they played “crack the whip” with others on the ice. Maggie and Wally were married August 17, 1947, in Moorhead, Minnesota. Maggie worked as a waitress for three years during high school, later as a buyer for Neubarth’s Jewelry and as a bank teller. They made their way to Moses Lake, Washington, raising three kids landing in Las Vegas about 1963. Maggie helped remodel 10 houses over the course of 25 years with her family. She owned a vacuum repair store and owned a puppet production company. Maggie was active in her church as an assisting minister from time to time, often giving communion to shut-ins. She rallied her congregati­on and other churches for sandwiches to help feed the homeless in local parks. Maggie carried on a baby basket ministry many years, until she was 85 years old through her church and other churches providing indigent babies from local hospitals with clothes, diapers and formula. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Berdell Kragnes, Betty Bishop and Esther Horner; and brothers, Wayne Huebner and Bill Huebner. Maggie is survived by her children, Margaret (Bob) Arnold of Washington, Michael Ekanger of Las Vegas, and David (Nancy) Ekanger of Henderson; two of her seven siblings, sister, June Westerberg and brother, John (Peggy) Huebner; grandchild­ren, Matthew (Jamie) Ekanger, Nicole (Tal) Browne, Jason (Chelsey) Arnold, Christina Arnold, Alan Ekanger and Austin Ekanger; and eight great-grandchild­ren. Inurnment will be at 1:20 p.m. Thursday, March 22, at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veterans Memorial Drive, Boulder City. Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 23, at Grace Lutheran Church, 2657 W. Horizon Ridge Drive, Henderson.
