Feds to give $10M in grants to facilitate citizenship prep
The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services agency announced this past week that it will use fees paid to the agency to subsidize citizenship preparation programs across the country under the Citizenship and Assimilation Grant Program.
Up to $10 million in grants is a significant sum for the pro-immigrant organizations, which usually have limited resources to help low-income foreigners become U.S. citizens.
“These competitive grant opportunities are for organizations that prepare lawful permanent residents for naturalization and promote civic assimilation through increased knowledge of English, U.S. history and civics,” the USCIS announcement said.
