LEONARD "LENNY" FICHTER

-

Leonard Robert “Lenny”Fichter, 68, passed away July 20, 2018, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family at the Brandley House Hospice in Summerfield, Florida, and was welcomed into the arms of our Lord. He was born January 17, 1950, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to the late Charles and Helen Blum Fichter. He lived and attended schools in Norwood, Ohio until his high school graduation in 1968, after which he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He was a supply and material control specialist for the next 21 years, retiring after a distinguished military career at an E-7 rank. He served tours all over the world, including Vietnam. His favorite tour was in Belgium because he was named to the Air Force baseball team that traveled Europe. He was extremely proud of his service to his country and was a true patriot. After his retirement, he worked in sales for several cellular companies as well as for Sage Construction. His first love was always handling supply depots, so whenever possible he found positions in that line of work. While stationed in Florida, he met and married Vivian Simcic in 1972 and then later married Dianne Leier Hoggard in 1992 in Las Vegas. He lived in Las Vegas for 30 years before he and Dianne moved to Florida five years ago to be closer to his sons and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Leo; sister, Charlotte; and stepson, Michael. He is survived by his beloved wife, of 26 years, Dianne; son, Robert (Jana), and granddaughter, Arya of Yellville, Arkansas; son, Kenneth (Michelle) and grandson, Grayson of Palm Bay, Florida; brothers, Lester (Sandra) of Oceanside, California, Larry (Karen) of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Louis (Vicki) of Milford, Ohio; sisters, Cathy and Carol of Cincinnati, Ohio; sister-in-law, Mary of Cincinnati, Ohio; mother of his sons, Vivian of Orlando, Florida; and many nieces and nephews. Lenny was a member of the American Legion and the Air Force Sargent’s Association as well as the Eagle Ridge Men’s Golf Club. He made friends immediately wherever he went due to his gregarious personality and fun-loving sense of humor. He was an avid baseball and softball player until shoulder problems ended that recreation. He also enjoyed bowling, participating in several leagues most of his life. His true love was golf. He was a single digit handicapper, had three holes-in-one, as well as an amazing albatross. He golfed all over the country and proudly displayed his logo ball collection to all guests. He will be so terribly missed by his friends and family but he had a tee time at “The Heavenly Links.” “Play on Mr. Lenny Fichter!” Following cremation, there will be a celebration of life at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 4, in the ballroom of the Del Webb Spruce Creek Country Club, in Summerfield, Florida. His cremains will be interred at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, August 16, at The Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Cancer Society.
