INDIANAPOLIS COLTS 26, SAN DIEGO CHARGERS 22

-

At Lucas Oil Stadium, Indianapolis ■ RECAP: Andrew Luck threw a perfect pass to T.Y. Hilton with 1:17 to play, and the Pro Bowl receiver spun out of a tackle and zig-zagged 63 yards for a touchdown to lift Indianapolis (1-2) over San Diego (1-2).

Moments earlier, Hilton had kept the drive alive by spinning to make an 8-yard catch on fourth-and-7, a pass even Luck acknowledged was off the mark. The Colts recovered two fumbles in the final 62 seconds to preserve the win. Luck finished 24 of 37 for 331 yards with one interception in his 15th career come-frombehind win. At times Luck struggled, losing a fumble late in the first half that San Diego’s Caraun Reid returned 61 yards to tie it at 13.

When it mattered most, Luck persevered. He converted the 8-yard pass to Hilton with 1:52 left, then found Hilton again after an injury stoppage. Hilton spun out of a tackle and dodged Chargers defenders for the decisive touchdown.

Philip Rivers got two more chances to win it. The first ended when safety Clayton Geathers stripped the ball from tight end Hunter Henry and Pro Bowl safety Mike Adams fell on it. The Colts recovered another fumble on a desperation play as time expired. Rivers was 25 of 38 for 310 yards. Melvin Gordon was held to 16 carries for 35 yards, but scored a TD.

■ QUOTABLE: “On the fourth-down play, it was the same sort of play and I kind of missed him. So I came back to him and this time I hit him in stride.” — Luck on his pass to Hilton
