Vandeweghe stars; U.S. halts 17-year Fed Cup title drought

A 17-year championsh­ip drought ended for the United States when it beat Belarus 3-2 to take its 18th Fed Cup title.

Coco Vandeweghe and Shelby Rogers defeated Aryna Sabalenka and Aliaksandr­a Sasnovich 6-3, 7-6 (3) in the deciding doubles of the 2017 final in Minsk, Belarus. It was the first Fed Cup title for the U.S. since 2000, after losing in the finals in 2003, 2009 and 2010.

Vandeweghe is the first player to win eight matches since the eight-team World Group format was introduced in 2005.

ATP: At London, No. 2-ranked Roger Federer, 36, the oldest player ever to qualify for ATP Finals, notched a 6-4, 7-6 (4) win over American Jack Sock in his opening match of the season-ending tournament.
