Putting our health at risk
I am the father of three kids, and I’m concerned about climate change.
It is clear that the current administration does not care about environmental protection and is ignoring the severe effects of climate change. We need to understand that our health is already in jeopardy and the impacts will become more and more severe as we continue to burn fossil fuels, which drive climate change.
Recently, I attended a panel discussion hosted by the Sierra Club to discuss extreme weather and the impacts of climate change. One of the speakers, Matthew De Falco, a firefighter with the Bureau of Land Management, talked about his experiences fighting severe wildfires.
I’m very concerned for the health of my children and all of my family. If the Trump administration keeps repealing key environmental protections it will mean more sick kids, more expensive hospital visits and thousands of premature deaths that could have been prevented.
It could also lead to more intense and destructive severe weather events like hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria. Instead of offering solutions to combat climate change, the Trump administration is doing the opposite: dismantling the solutions we already have in place.
