‘Black Panther’ maintains grip on box office crown

Disney and Marvel’s “Black Panther” held on to the No. 1 spot at the box office for the fourth weekend in a row, adding $40.8 million to its North American gross.

“Black Panther” has earned a staggering $561.7 million domestical­ly and more than $1 billion worldwide.

It bested Disney’s newest film, “A Wrinkle in Time,” which debuted in second place with $33.1 million. The Ava Duvernay-directed film cost more than $100 million to produce.

The horror film, “The Strangers: Prey at Night,” opened in third place with $10.4 million. The Jennifer Lawrence spy thriller “Red Sparrow” took fourth in its second weekend with $8.5 million, and the comedy “Game Night” rounded out the top five with $7.9 million.

The top 20 movies at U.S. and Canadian theaters Friday through Sunday, followed by distributi­on studio, gross, number of theater locations, average receipts per location, total gross and number of weeks in release, as compiled Monday by comscore:
