Lodi sweeps Central Catholic, Escalon in tourney

An excellent day for Lodi High baseball pitchers at the Oakdale Tournament on Wednesday.

Playing two games, Lodi (10-8) knocked off small-school powerhouse­s Central Catholic 4-1, and Escalon 4-0.

Against Central, the Flames’ pitcher Robbie Loiacono struck out 15 Raider batters, and allowed only one walk.

At the plate, the Flames outhit the Raiders by an 8-4 margin. Nathan Foster and Dominic Duran had two hits each for Lodi. One of Foster and Duran’s hits was a double each, and Foster had two RBIs. Bobby Yabumoto also had a double.

Facing Escalon in the nightcap, Lodi pitcher Trevor Shuman gave up only two hits, struck out six and walked none. He tossed only 95 pitches.

The Flames banged out nine hits. Onethird of those hits came from Alejandro Avila, who had two doubles. Jacob Jordan had two hits, and Logan Morita, along with Flame teammates Evan Webb (double), Alex Estrada and Chad Plath, had a hit each.

Cory Glasgow went 2-for-3 with a triple, RBI and two runs for Tokay (6-9) in Wednesday’s victory at the Oakdale Tournament, and Joseph Heryford went 3-for-3 with an RBI.

Joshua Lew, Jack Gobel and Max Blevins each allowed one run on the mound. Jaime Quesada, Victor Munoz and Hugo Velazquez each singled, with a pair of RBIs from Quesada.

The Tigers fell later in the day to host Oakdale, 8-3, with a double and two runs from Glasgow. Heryford, Luis Ramirez and Munoz each singled, while Nick Frisk and Jack Gobel pitched for Tokay.

Heryford, along with Glasgow, Luis Ramirez and Victor Munoz, had a hit each for a combined four for Tokay. Glasgow had a double. The host Mustangs had eight in the contest.

Taking part at the 58th annual Fran Oneto Tournament at Alvernaz Field on the Livingston High campus, the visiting Eagles actually lead 3-2 after the first inning.

But the host Wolves grounded the Eagles’ offense to only two hits; one each from Robert Dutcher and Bubba Pinasco. Livingston had six hits, and benefited from six Elliot (7-6) errors. The game was called after five innings when Livingston (10-8) scored five times to secure the win.

The Hawks improved to 13-6, and 7-2 in the Sierra Valley Conference, with Wednesday’s victory.

SOFTBALL

Samantha Amarante went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, and Shelby Feathersto­n went 3-for-4 for the Flames, but it wasn’t enough in Wednesday’s Tri-City Athletic League loss.

Harlie Litton added a triple, along with singles from Ashley Toy, Dessa Zavala and Bailey Correia. Feathersto­n pitched a complete game, striking out two while allowing nine hits and seven walks.

Lodi will play Tokay today at 3:30 p.m. at Lodi Softball Complex in a rain makeup game from Monday.

GOLF

In its last TCAL match of the season, Tokay (2-8) was led by Brett Bendler, who carded a 48. Fellow Tiger golfers behind Bendler were Jaydon Matt followed with a 51, Connor Means 64 and Galvin Ghuman and Jack Atwal 69 each.
