A’S TRIGGS OUT FOR SEA­SON AF­TER SURGERY

A’s pitcher An­drew Triggs un­der­went surgery to re­pair a torn labrum in his left hip and is ex­pected to miss the rest of the sea­son.

Dr. Marc Philip­pon per­formed the surgery on Thurs­day in Vail, Colorado, on the right-han­der.

Triggs got off to a nice start with the club by go­ing 5-2 with a 2.12 ERA in his first eight starts, but his num­bers had de­clined se­verely in his last four starts (0-4, 9.64 ERA) be­fore be­ing placed on the dis­abled list June 10.

The in­jury did not re­spond to treat­ment.

Catcher Ryan Lavarn­way cleared waivers and was out­righted to Triple-A Nash­ville. He played in one game for Oakland and went 0 for 2 af­ter be­ing called up July 5. He was des­ig­nated for as­sign­ment on Satur­day.
