Candlelight vigil for victims of domestic violence
STOCKTON — October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and Women’s Center-Youth & Family Services will remember victims of domestic violence during a candlelight vigil on Thursday.
The candlelight vigil will take place among a display of more than 70 life-sized, red silhouettes that represent the victims from San Joaquin County who have been killed as a result of domestic violence.
In the past fiscal year, Women’s Center-Youth & Family Services has provided 4,379 nights of safety to victims and their children and supported 1,479 victims through individual and group counseling.
This year’s vigil will include remarks and history from the Women’s Center-Youth & Family Services and a reading of the names of local victims.
The vigil will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at 620 N. San Joaquin St. in Stockton. It is free, and the public is invited. For more information, call 209-941-2611.
