Can­dle­light vigil for vic­tims of do­mes­tic vi­o­lence

STOCK­TON — Oc­to­ber is Do­mes­tic Vi­o­lence Aware­ness Month, and Women’s Cen­ter-Youth & Fam­ily Ser­vices will re­mem­ber vic­tims of do­mes­tic vi­o­lence dur­ing a can­dle­light vigil on Thurs­day.

The can­dle­light vigil will take place among a dis­play of more than 70 life-sized, red sil­hou­ettes that rep­re­sent the vic­tims from San Joaquin County who have been killed as a re­sult of do­mes­tic vi­o­lence.

In the past fis­cal year, Women’s Cen­ter-Youth & Fam­ily Ser­vices has pro­vided 4,379 nights of safety to vic­tims and their chil­dren and sup­ported 1,479 vic­tims through in­di­vid­ual and group coun­sel­ing.

This year’s vigil will in­clude re­marks and his­tory from the Women’s Cen­ter-Youth & Fam­ily Ser­vices and a read­ing of the names of lo­cal vic­tims.

The vigil will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thurs­day at 620 N. San Joaquin St. in Stock­ton. It is free, and the pub­lic is in­vited. For more in­for­ma­tion, call 209-941-2611.
