LOMA RICA — Of the four people reported missing during the Cascade Fire in Yuba County, one has been found safe, two are still missing and one was found dead. The discovery marks the second death associated with the fire.

According to the Yuba County Sheriff ’s Office, a body was found at a burned residence in Loma Rica on Tuesday afternoon during a welfare check after a citizen reported a family friend missing. The victim’s identity has not been released pending notification of family.

The first death happened early Monday after a truck driven by a woman went off a private road while evacuating the area. As the flames approached, bystanders attempted to free her, but her vehicle was overcome by the fire. Her dog was also killed.

Spokeswoman Leslie Carbah said there is no timeline for when the two identities will be confirmed. With fire fatalities, confirmation can be delayed, waiting on dental records, DNA, and other identifying factors, she said.
