Tokay boys, girls silence Bulldogs
Tigers play early games, with boys winning close game
Starting their Tri-City Athletic League games two hours earlier didn’t bother the Tokay High varsity boys and girls’ water polo teams on Thursday.
Hosting Tracy at the Tigers’ swimming pool, the Tokay girls posted an 11-4 win, while the Tiger boys edged the Bulldogs 7-5.
Nicole Iturraran had six goals — two in the first, second and third periods — in the Tokay girls’ victory over Tracy. Katie McLain and Lizzy Macfarlane had two each, and Raegan Hauschildt had one for Tokay (4-3 in the TCAL, 8-5).
Hunter Mayo had two goals in the final period for Tokay (3-4 in the TCAL, 5-8) and Balazs Bendeguz, a foreign exchange student from Slovakia, had one that sealed the win. Connor Means had two goals for the Tigers in the first half, and Julio Murguia one.
Normally, the Tokay varsity girls play their league games at 5:30 p.m., followed by the varsity boys at 6:30. But the varsity games were moved to 3:30 and 4:30 respectively to accommodate the Tracy senior boys and girls who wanted to return to Tracy early to take part in their school’s homecoming festivities.
