This log home design gives the owners everything they need while protecting their wetland lot.

With their daughters grown, married and with children of their own, Yvonne and Jim’s extended family had outgrown its small cabin on a lake in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. The couple decided to build a new log home to make room for family and capture gorgeous sunsets over the lake. Why a log home: Yvonne and Jim love log homes so much they now own three: “Our full-time residence in Wisconsin and our two vacation homes in the U. P.,” Jim says. Most important features: The new log cabin needed to be a base camp for family activities like hiking, ATV and snowmobile riding, hunting, fishing and swimming. And they wanted it to be a warm welcome getaway to return to as often as they could. For Jim, who enjoys hunting, space to display his full- body trophy mounts was a must- have.
