Big enough to entertain yet cozy enough for two, this hybrid plan offers the best of everything.
With an eye to the future, June and Ron Calvano wanted to build a quaint getaway on their mountain lot in Georgia, hoping to eventually make it their full-time home in retirement. Their five-acre lot is heavily wooded and allows them to enjoy the peacefulness of the region. Why a log home: The Calvanos chose 8-inch half-log siding for their home’s exterior, which they mixed with board-and-batten accents. “We like the look that the mix of textures gives,” June says. Most important features: The home needed to be big enough to enjoy with family and friends, June explains, “but small enough to keep its quaint atmosphere when it’s only the two of us.” The couple wanted open living on the main level with a fireplace and a loft above.
