Clashes, airstrikes con­tinue in Gaza

gaza city — Is­rael struck Ha­mas tar­gets Fri­day in the Gaza Strip and threat­ened fur­ther ac­tion to stop rocket at­tacks, and clashes con­tin­ued be­tween Pales­tinian fac­tions. At least eight deaths were re­ported.

A Pales­tinian hospi­tal of­fi­cial said at least one man was killed and oth­ers were wounded when Is­raeli he­li­copters fired on them af­ter they launched a rocket into Is­rael.

The mil­i­tary said it at­tacked a rocket crew in north­ern Gaza and that 10 mis­siles had struck Is­rael. One hit a house in the town of Sderot, but medics said in­juries were mi­nor.

Hours later, Is­raeli air­craft bombed a van in Gaza City owned by Ha­mas, the mil­i­tant Is­lamic group that won Pales­tinian par­lia­men­tary elec­tions last year. Two mil­i­tants were killed, hospi­tal of­fi­cials said. Five other airstrikes wounded two civil­ians and two Ha­mas mem­bers, hospi- tal of­fi­cials said.

Forces of the Fatah and Ha­mas move­ments, locked in fight­ing for a week, bat­tled again in Gaza City. Three rocket-pro­pelled grenades were fired at the pro-Ha­mas Is­lamic Univer­sity cam­pus.

One mil­i­tant from each side was killed, hospi­tal of­fi­cials said. A fish­er­man caught in cross­fire also was killed. Hospi­tal of­fi­cials said two other civil­ians died of wounds sus­tained dur­ing in­ter­nal clashes ear­lier this week.
