39 ar­rested in fed­eral sweep

Fed­eral agents in San Diego County have ar­rested 39 peo­ple on im­mi­gra­tion-re­lated of­fenses, more than half of them felons con­victed of crimes rang­ing from do­mes­tic vi­o­lence to car theft and drug-re­lated crimes, au­thor­i­ties said.

Most of the sus­pects — 29 men and 10 women — were ar­rested in their homes in San Diego and the north­ern San Diego County cities of Carls­bad, Vista, Poway and Ocean­side, ac­cord­ing to U.S. Im­mi­gra­tion and Cus­toms En­force­ment.

They orig­i­nally are from Mex­ico, Gu­atemala, El Sal­vador, So­ma­lia and the Philip­pines. They will be im­me­di­ately de­ported or held for im­mi­gra­tion hear­ings.

The three-day sweep was led by ICE’s fugi­tives’ op­er­a­tions pro­gram. Agents have made 1,343 ar­rests so far this fed­eral fis­cal year end­ing Sept. 30.
