Sum­mer ended Wed­nes­day night, but for the West Coast it seemed as if it never be­gan. A per­sis­tent up­per-level trough of low pres­sure and an on­shore flow of Pa­cific air kept Cal­i­for­nia rel­a­tively cool most of the sea­son.
