Charges filed in ice pick at­tack

A Yorba Linda woman who au­thor­i­ties said stabbed a for­mer boyfriend with an ice pick af­ter hid­ing in the back seat of his car has been charged with at­tempted murder and is ex­pected to be ar­raigned Fri­day.

El­iz­a­beth Cuevas Vil­lanueva, 47, al­legedly hid in the back seat of her for­mer boyfriend’s Mercedes-Benz, which was parked at Mes­siah Lutheran Church in Yorba Linda. When the man re­turned to his car and started to leave, she al­legedly at­tacked him from be­hind, stab­bing him in the head and shoul­ders, pros­e­cu­tors said.

The vic­tim, who au­thor­i­ties did not iden­tify, was able to es­cape af­ter he un­in­ten­tion­ally crashed into a tree while try­ing to bring the car to a stop, pros­e­cu­tors said.

Vil­lanueva, who is ac­cused of flee­ing the scene on foot, was pur­sued and held by wit­nesses un­til law en­force­ment of­fi­cials ar­rived.
