TCU shakes off a sluggish start

Andy Dalton bounced back from interceptions on consecutive throws by leading three consecutive touchdown drives, and No. 4 Texas Christian picked up a 41-24 win over Southern Methodist on Friday night at Dallas.
The Horned Frogs (4-0), playing their first road game of the season, were in a bit of trouble when Dalton’s second interception set up a touchdown that gave the Mustangs (2-2) a 17-14 lead early in the third quarter. But Jeremy Kerley returned the ensuing kickoff 83 yards and TCU was back in control.
Dalton capped that drive with an 11-yard touchdown pass to Bart Johnson. Dalton completed two thirddown conversions on the way to a nine-yard touchdown run by Waymon
James on the next series, then ran 14 yards on a third and seven to set up a four-yard touchdown run by
Luke Shivers at the start of the fourth quarter. That put TCU ahead, 35-17, and entire sections in the Ford Stadium-record crowd of 35,481 began heading for the exits.
SMU had won five consecutive games at home and was looking for its biggest victory yet under Coach
June Jones, who is in his third season with the Mustangs. Kyle Padron guided the Mustangs to a 7-0 lead, had them within 14-10 at halftime and then threw a goahead touchdown pass 1:02 into the third quarter.
A Pittsburgh defensive back who was kicked off the team hours before the Panthers’ 31-3 loss to No. 19 Miami on Thursday had been arrested the previous night on suspicion of assaulting his girlfriend after she told him she was pregnant.
