MEN OF TROY

With all the penalties it has had this season, USC’s penalty problems pale in comparison to those of the Trojans from Troy (Ala.) University. Troy’s Trojans started Saturday as the nation’s most penalized team, flagged 37 times for an average of 105 yards a game.

GOOD OMEN

Kansas State rallied in the fourth quarter to defeat Central Florida, 17-13, running the Wildcats’ record to 4-0 for the first time since 2003. That’s the same year Kansas State won its only Big 12 football championship. Next up: No. 6 Nebraska.

THEY SAID IT

“I know it made us feel good … that he’s at home watching and not having to worry about us.” —Michigan State’s Edwin Baker, referring to Coach Mark Dantonio, who missed the Spartans’ 45-7 win while recovering from a heart attack.
