at No. 13 Utah 56, San Jose State 3: Jordan Wynn threw for two touchdowns in his first game since the season opener and eight players scored for the Utes (4-0) in a rout of the Spartans (1-3).
Wynn completed 14 of 18 passes for 124 yards Saturday before heading back to the sidelines after one series in the third quarter with Utah (4-0) already running away with its 20th consecutive home win. Wynn had missed the previous two games because of a sprained right thumb.
The Utes blew open the game with four touchdowns in the second quarter, including a 10-yard return on a botched punt that bounced off the San Jose State offensive line right to Reggie Topps to put Utah up 21-3.
San Jose State (1-3) had 70 yards of offense in the first half and finished with 172 in the game.
Harrison Waid scored the Spartans’ only points on a 20-yard field goal that pulled San Jose State within 7-3 in the first quarter.
The Spartans needed Brandon Driver’s 71-yard kickoff return to set up that score and never really got close again as Utah scored the next seven touchdowns.
The blowout loss ended a rough month for San Jose State, which made losing trips to top-ranked Alabama and No. 11Wisconsin in the first two weeks of the season.
The Spartans didn’t help themselves much, either, with several mistakes that led to a 27.4-yard punting average.
Nevada 27, at Brigham Young 13: Colin Kaepernick threw for 196 yards and a touchdown and ran for 82 yards and another score as the Wolf Pack (4-0) continued to build a case for being ranked. Vai Taua added 133 yards rushing and a touchdown for Nevada, which is off to its best start since going 12-0 to begin the 1991season.
BYU (1-3) lost a third consecutive game for the first time in six years.
Kaepernick led five scoring drives of nine plays or more. He threw a six-yard touchdown to Courtney Randall on the game’s first possession and added a four-yard scoring run in the second quarter that gave the Wolf Pack a 21-7 lead.
at Colorado State 36, Idaho 34: Ben DeLine kicked a 35-yard field goal as time expired, Pete Thomas and Raymond Carter each had three touchdowns as the Rams (1-3) ended a 12-game losing streak. Idaho (2-2) led, 13-0, but Colorado State took a 14-13 lead with two quick touchdowns just before halftime. at San Diego State 41, Utah State 7: Ryan Lindley threw for 362 yards and three touchdowns for the Aztecs. Vincent Brown, who surpassed 2,000 career receiving yards, caught five passes for 177 yards and two touchdowns for San Jose State (3-1).
