Jose Martinez, 24, and Samuel Martinez, 20, were killed about 12:50 a.m. Saturday in the 2900 block of Division Street, near San Fernando Road. Both sustained single wounds and died at the scene.

Marvin Gonzalez, 19, also was shot and was in critical condition at a local hospital.

The men were heading to a liquor store when they were approached by several suspects who asked about their gang affiliations. Apparently not satisfied with the answers, the suspects opened fire, said Sgt. Gregory Whortan of the Los Angeles Police Department. Police said the victims were not gang members.
