Police say they halted a riot plot
Armenian police detained and raided the offices and homes of four opposition activists suspected of plotting riots on the centennial of the massacre of more than a million Armenians.
The Investigative Committee said in a statement that four activists of the nationalist Founding Parliament opposition group, including its leader, are in custody. The group, however, says five of its members were detained.
The investigators said they have “prevented an attempt to orchestrate riots” on April 24 in Yerevan, the capital, to commemorate 100 years since the Armenian genocide of 1915 to 1918 under the Ottoman Empire, which became Turkey.
Turkey disputes that a genocide took place.
