Po­lice say they halted a riot plot

Ar­me­nian po­lice de­tained and raided the of­fices and homes of four op­po­si­tion ac­tivists sus­pected of plot­ting ri­ots on the cen­ten­nial of the massacre of more than a mil­lion Ar­me­ni­ans.

The In­ves­tiga­tive Com­mit­tee said in a state­ment that four ac­tivists of the na­tion­al­ist Found­ing Par­lia­ment op­po­si­tion group, in­clud­ing its leader, are in cus­tody. The group, how­ever, says five of its mem­bers were de­tained.

The in­ves­ti­ga­tors said they have “pre­vented an at­tempt to or­ches­trate ri­ots” on April 24 in Yere­van, the cap­i­tal, to com­mem­o­rate 100 years since the Ar­me­nian geno­cide of 1915 to 1918 un­der the Ot­toman Em­pire, which be­came Turkey.

Turkey dis­putes that a geno­cide took place.
