UAB to bring back football
Alabama Birmingham President Ray Watts said Monday he is bringing back the football program in 2016, reversing a decision to shut it down because it was too expensive.
Watt said donors have pledged to make up the projected $17.2-million deficit over the next five years if football is restored. Watts told the Associated Press he decided on Monday morning to reverse the earlier decision after meetings with UAB supporters continued through the weekend.
Priest Willis, a backup defensive back for UCLA the last two seasons, plans to transfer to another school, according to a person with knowledge of the situation who was not authorized to speak on behalf of the player or UCLA. Willis, who has two years of NCAA eligibility remaining, appeared in 12 games last season, making one start.
