Fan hit by bat is re­cov­er­ing

A fan hit by a bro­ken bat at Fen­way Park is ex­pected to sur­vive af­ter suf­fer­ing life-threat­en­ing in­juries dur­ing a game Fri­day be­tween the Oak­land Athletics and Bos­ton Red Sox. Tonya Car­pen­ter, who was struck in the head by the bat of Oak­land’s Brett Lawrie at Fen­way Park, is re­cov­er­ing, Bos­ton Po­lice Of­fi­cer Rachel McGuire said Satur­day. Car­pen­ter is now in se­ri­ous con­di­tion, her fam­ily said in a state­ment.
