Bono lets down Stars and Stripes

Los Angeles Times - - CALENDAR -

Last night I attended the U2 concert at the L.A. Forum. I’ve been a huge U2 fan for many years and the concert was spectacular, as always. But could someone please let Bono knowthat in our country, it’s extremely offensive to lay the American flag on the ground?

I’m going to be positive andmake the assumption that being fromanother country, he didn’t know that. I have always admired the band’s progressive leadership and advocacy on issues such as peace and AIDS, and I’m sure he didn’t mean to be offensive. But he of all people should knowthat when you’re handling the national symbol of another country in a large public venue, by all means, knowthe country’s customs and traditions.
