Astros to call top prospect up

The Hous­ton Astros are call­ing up top prospect Car­los Cor­rea, the No. 1 over­all pick in the 2012 draft.

The team an­nounced Sun­day night that Cor­rea, a short­stop, will join the Astros in Chicago on Mon­day, in time for the opener of a three-game se­ries against the White Sox. Cor­rea was with triple-A Fresno af­ter be­gin­ning the sea­son with dou­ble-A Cor­pus Christi (Texas), and was hit­ting a com­bined .335 with 10 home runs, 44 runs bat­ted in and 21 dou­bles with 18 stolen bases.

The Astros have also op­tioned right-han­der Jake Buchanan to Fresno, and a sub­se­quent move to the 40-man ros­ter will be made Mon­day.

At 20, Cor­rea will be the youngest player in the ma­jors. He was drafted out of the Puerto Rico Base­ball Academy when he was 17. Etc.

The Texas Rangers put righthander Ross Oh­len­dorf on the 15day dis­abled list with a strained right groin. ... The White Sox placed left-handed re­liever Dan Jen­nings on the DL with in­flam­ma­tion on the left side of his neck.
