Delay sought on abortion ruling

Los Angeles Times - - THE NATION - — Maria L. L a Ganga, Molly Hennessy-Fiske

A coalition of abortion providers asked a federal appeals court to suspend its ruling that would force most Texas abortion clinics to close as of July 1.

The providers are requesting time to appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court, arguing that if the U.S. 5th Circuit Court of Appeals’ ruling goes into effect, clinics and women seeking abortions would suffer “irreparable harm,” according to court documents.

On Tuesday, a threemember panel of the 5th Circuit upheld most of the law. Abortion providers say all but eight Texas clinics would be forced to close.
