One dead, four wounded in two shootings

Two shootings in South Los Angeles on Wednesday afternoon left one man dead and four people injured.

The first shooting occurred about 12:30 p.m. near 88th Street and Vermont Avenue in the Westmont neighborho­od, L.A. County Sheriff ’s Deputy Ryan Rouzan said.

A man who was about 25 years old was killed and three others were wounded by gunfire, Rouzan said.

The three injured people were taken to a hospital, where at least two of them were in critical condition, L.A. Fire Department spokeswoma­n Margaret Stewart said.

It was unclear whether any arrests had been made, and detectives were investigat­ing whether the shooting was connected to gang activity.

The second shooting occurred about 16 blocks away in the 2000 block of 83rd Street in the Manchester Square neighborho­od.

About 1:50 p.m., a man believed to be in his 20s got out of a white Lexus and shot another man, LAPD Officer Drake Madison said. The victim was conscious when taken to the hospital.

It wasn’t clear whether the shootings were related.
