Af­ter long de­lay, L.A. plays to a draw


COLUM­BUS, Ohio— Fed­erico Higuain scored the equal­izer in the 66th minute, and the Colum­bus Crew sal­vaged a 1-1 draw with the Galaxy af­ter a light­ning storm de­layed the start of the match for two hours and 10 min­utes Satur­day night.

Ethan Fin­lay hur­dled Galaxy de­fender Leonardo to get to Tony Tchani’s en­try pass along the right side and cut it di­ag­o­nally back to Higuain for the fin­ish.

De­spite light­ning be­ing spot­ted in the area just mo­ments be­fore kick­off, the Crew (4-6-5) at­tracted the sea­son’s first sell­out crowd at the ex­panded-ca­pac­ity (21,051) Mapfre Sta­dium.

Se­bas­tian Llet­get, in his first MLS start, scored in the 14th minute for the Galaxy (5-5-7).

He al­lowed Rob­bie Rogers’ pass to go through his legs and beat Crew goal­keeper Steve Clark with a left-footed shot just in­side the near post.

Colum­bus had the mo­men­tum and chances in the fi­nal min­utes but failed to cap­i­tal­ize, ex­tend­ing its win­less streak to six games.
