Rebels press Golan offensive
Syrian rebels launched an offensive against government positions near the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights after shelling in and around Damascus killed at least 33 people.
Rebels of the Southern Front alliance and the Haramoun Army targeted several areas in the Golan, including the towns and villages of Quneitra, Khan Arnabeh, Baath and Jiba and the base of Brigade 90, the main government force in the region, said opposition activist Jamal Jolani, who is based in southern Syria.
The official Syrian Arab News Agency, meanwhile, said two shells had struck Arnous Park in Damascus, killing nine people and wounding 13 as shoppers were out before the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, which begins Thursday.
Government forces earlier fired Iranian rockets on the rebel-held suburb of Duma, killing 24 people, an activist group said.
