Dou­glas: Michael Dou­glas, who only re­cently has em­braced his Jewish roots, is in Is­rael this week ac­com­pa­nied by wife Cather­ine Zeta-Jones and their two chil­dren as he ac­cepts the Ge­n­e­sis Prize. Dou­glas is vow­ing to use the $1 mil­lion prize to build bridges be­tween Is­rael and in­creas­ingly as­sim­i­lated Jewish com­mu­ni­ties around the world.

Higher ed: Emer­son Col­lege in Bos­ton said Wed­nes­day that it will be­come the first col­lege to of­fer a fouryear bach­e­lor of fine arts in comedic arts de­gree. Start­ing in Septem­ber 2016, the de­gree will be grounded in the history and the­ory of com­edy with prac­ti­cal learn­ing and a fo­cus on pre­par­ing stu­dents for ca­reers in com­edy per­for­mance, writ­ing and pro­duc­tion.
