Officials say big gang busted up

Los Angeles Times - - CHARLESTON CHURCH SHOOTING -

More than 40 people were arrested on drug and gun charges in what authorities called the dismantling of Boston’s largest and most powerful gang.

Officials said a grand jury had indicted 48 members and associates of the Columbia Point Dawgs. Forty-one were arrested and seven remained at large.

The gang started operating out of the Columbia Point housing project in Boston’s Dorchester section in the 1980s, eventually trafficking drugs from Boston to Maine, authorities said.

The gang’s infiltration of drug trafficking territories held by rival gangs led to numerous killings, according to law enforcement officials. They cited the 1990s killing of a member who was shot while sitting in Whitney Houston’s Bentley with her husband, Bobby Brown.
