Izturis may be out for season
Toronto Blue Jays infielder Maicer Izturis is expected to be out the rest of the season after having right shoulder surgery, effectively ending a three-year stint in Toronto that was plagued by injuries.
Manager John Gibbons said Thursday that the 34-year-old Izturis couldn’t stay healthy.
Izturis signed a three-year, $10million deal with Toronto in November 2012. He hit .236 in 107 games in 2013 and sat out the last several weeks because of a sore left ankle. Eleven games into a promising start to 2014, Izturis was lost for the year when he tripped and tore knee ligaments.
This year, Izturis strained his groin in spring training. While rehabbing that injury he injured his shoulder diving for a ball.
