Freedom to fry is reinstated
It’s about freedom, not the fries.
So says new Texas Agri- cultural Commissioner Sid Miller, a Republican, who said the state would repeal a decade-old ban on deep fryers in public school kitchens.
He said government mandates had failed to make children healthier in Texas, where about twothirds of residents are considered overweight or obese.
Miller is also lifting restrictions on soft drinks in school vending machines.
The American Heart Assn., the Texas PTA and school nutritionists opposed the changes.
