Toluca Lake fire destroys building being demolished
Three people, including a firefighter, were injured in a fire Friday that destroyed a two-story apartment building that was being demolished and damaged a second building in Toluca Lake.
The fire broke out about 12:20 p.m. in the 4600 block of Riverton Avenue, according to Margaret Stewart, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles Fire Department.
When firefighters arrived, they saw a partially demolished two-story apartment building that was engulfed in f lames, Stewart said.
The flames spread next door to two units in a threestory apartment building.
“At that point, we went on the defensive,” Stewart said.
The building being demolished was a complete loss, she said. Additionally, some cars parked along the street were damaged or destroyed by the fire.
One woman suffered smoke inhalation and another person who jumped from an apartment unit suffered a minor burn injury. At least one firefighter was injured and was in stable condition at a hospital, according to the Fire Department.
The fire is under investigation.
