Washington quar­ter­back Cyler Miles re­tired from col­lege football be­cause of a chronic hip in­jury. Miles was sus­pended for the sea­son opener last year but started 12 games, throw­ing for 2,397 yards and 17 touch­downs and with four in­ter­cep­tions.

Mark Coyle, ath­letic di­rec­tor at Boise State since De­cem­ber 2011, was in­tro­duced as the new ath­letic di­rec­tor at Syra­cuse. He will re­place in­terim AD Pete Sala, who took over for Daryl Gross in March. Gross, a for­mer se­nior as­so­ciate AD at USC, stepped down af­ter the NCAA f in­ished an eight- year in­ves­ti­ga­tion into the bas­ket­ball and football pro­grams.

Mis­souri de­fen­sive line­man Harold Brant­ley’s con­di­tion was up­graded to good af­ter surgery on his left leg, in­jured a car ac­ci­dent Sun­day.
