Police shoot man after foot chase
Azusa police shot a man late Wednesday night who allegedly attacked officers with a rake and then a shovel, authorities said.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff ’s Department, which is aiding Azusa police in its investigation, said two officers were patrolling the 5400 block of North Conwell Avenue about 11: 20 p. m. Wednesday when they saw a man on the sidewalk run away from them.
The officers chased him to a driveway, where the man threw a rake, then picked up a shovel and started swinging it, the Sheriff ’s Department said in a news release.
Police used a Taser on the man but it didn’t work. He hit one officer in the chest with the shovel before he was shot, officials said. He was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive.
A relative of the man identified him to ABC7 as Jose Juarez, 45.
