Dodgers 2, Miami 0
With the game scoreless and runners at the corners in the fifth inning, Howie Kendrick hit a ground ball to second base that looked as if it would result in an inning- ending double play. But shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria’s throw pulled first baseman Justin Bour off the bag, allowing Kendrick to reach safely. Jimmy Rollins scored on the play to move the Dodgers in front, 1- 0.
AT THE PLATE:
Adrian Gonzalez’s batting average is back over .300, as the first baseman was three for five with a double. Gonzalez’s seventh- inning double drove in Kendrick from first base and doubled the Dodgers’ lead to 2- 0. Kendrick had two hits and extended his hitting streak to four games.
ON THE MOUND:
Kenley Jansen recorded his 11th save, as he struck out two batters in the ninth inning. Adam Liberatore recorded the final out of the eighth inning. Zack Greinke limited the Marlins to four hits and a walk over 72⁄3 innings. He struck out six batters.
Yasiel Puig, who didn’t start any of the previous four games because of a ruptured callus on his left hand, played all nine innings in right field. Puig walked three times, including once intentionally. Before the game, Manager Don Mattingly called on Puig to evolve as a hitter. “Is he a guy that is just up there reacting?” Mattingly said. “Or does he actually have a game plan when he walks up there?” At this point, Mattingly said, Puig often falls into the former category. “Pitchers are predictable, too,” Mattingly said. “You understand what they can do over time. But you don’t understand it if you don’t watch and study. I think hitters, in general, they make adjustments and get better or they kind of stay the same and that’s why you see guys come in, do well and he’s still the same now three years later.” … Sidelined outfielder Carl Crawford took live batting practice over the weekend and is expected to start a minor league rehabilitation assignment in the coming days with Class- A Rancho Cucamonga. Crawford has sat out the last two months because of a torn side muscle.
