Is­lamic State plot sus­pected

A 23- year- old New Jersey man was ar­rested and charged with try­ing to aid Is- lamic State, and court records show he was part of a group of young men who had planned to travel over­seas from New York and New Jersey, fed­eral of­fi­cials said.

Alaa Saadeh of West New York, N. J., was charged with at­tempt­ing to pro­vide sup­port to a ter­ror­ist or­ga­ni­za­tion and with wit­ness tam­per­ing af­ter he was ar­rested at his home, ac­cord­ing to the U. S. at­tor­ney’s of­fice in New Jersey.

Court records tied to Saadeh’s ar­rest sug­gest that as many as five men were in­volved in the plot. Saadeh and his brother, whose full name was not dis­closed, also spoke of “unit­ing ” their group once they reached ter­ri­tory con­trolled by Is­lamic State.
